Neighborhood: Santa Monica
Time lived in: 1 year
Occupation: Residential Real Estate Agent at Sotheby's
GLB: What makes this space “home?”
Courtney: It’s the space where I am most comfortable, cozy and joyful. The art: prints and paintings in every room brings warmth to the space; the books: coffee table books and novels that I’ve read bring a sense of nostalgia; the furniture: I’ve been collecting over the years, previously living in Chicago and New York and through my travels, bring a sense of safety and comfort to the home. All combined it’s like a warm, beautiful, welcoming blanket to wrap myself in.
GLB: What are 3 things in your apartment that you can’t live without? Why?
Courtney: The windows in the living room that open to a large Birds of Paradise bush, chocolate brown leather stools that I bought at a flea market in Morocco, and most importantly my dog Georgie who’s always awaiting my arrival home.
GLB: What room do you spend the most time in? Why?
Courtney: I’m either working in my breakfast nook or in my living room, where on sunny days the windows are open, allowing the breeze to softly move my sheer curtains. Sometimes I feel as if I’ve been transported to a Spanish casita somewhere overseas.
GLB: What do you like about living in an older building?
Courtney: Up until this apartment, I’d only lived in newly renovated spaces. With this spot, even months before I moved in, I was on a walk in the neighborhood and immediately was drawn to the greenery and Spanish style influence of the exterior. I became obsessed and through my real estate connections, wrote letters to each owner explaining my interest and to let me know if any units opened up (I can be very persistent). Luckily, my unit became vacant and I’ve loved it ever since. Manifestation works! The original colorful tiles, character of the tiny details throughout and natural light are some of the qualities I love about living in an older building.
GLB: What are your favorite neighborhood spots?
Courtney: Ghisallo, Shefa Yoga, R&D Kitchen, Proper Hotel rooftop
GLB: Anything else you’d like to share?
Courtney: My home is my happy place and I’m grateful to be able to share with others, hope you enjoy.
