Neighborhood: Miracle Mile
Years Lived In: 1 year in what I call my personal (Tres) Petite Trianon.
Occupation: Actress in film, tv, theatre (She’s a thespian!)
GLB: What makes your place "home?"
Elyssia:
-The sentimentality and romanticism around not only the intricate details in the space but of my vintage furniture and decor. The beauty and history of what once was.
-Upon entry through the crafted Art Deco archway and mouldings, I am greeted by a large print of stills from the revolutionary silent film ‘Un Chien Andalou’. This is complimented by an original Time magazine from 1935 of Jean Harlow, a nod to old Hollywood glamour and my love of film noir.
-My mother is an abstract artist so I have tried to surround myself with as many different pieces as I can, whether it is a talented friend of mine painting my mouth on the pocket of denim shorts, the Un Fournier Advertising Poster by Leonetto Cappiello gifted to me by my dear family friends, or colourful paintings on canvas paper from the Silverlake Market. It makes the space eclectic.
-My makeshift fireplace library full of plays, novels and poetry is a favourite nook of mine.
-My collections of vintage glass curated over the past year from Milk glass to crystal decanters and bowls, emerald ash-trays and French Dame Jeanne bottles.
-1960s cats resting on my fireplace backed by a tortoiseshell art deco mirror.
-The beauty in hand painted bathroom tiles and unapologetic use of colour!
GLB: What are 3 things you can't live without?
Elyssia:
. The dry Eucalyptus throughout reminds me of my family home and garden in Australia.
. Small nods to my Greek heritage can be seen through the Greek incense burner on my coffee table and small Santorini print in my bathroom gifted by my parents from their Honeymoon.
. Signed Annie Leibovitz ‘Wonderland’ book of portraits of actors and other artists.
GLB: Where do you spend the most time when you're at home?
Elyssia: The window in my living room is my favourite aspect of my space and indeed where I spend the most time. It looks out onto the tranquil courtyard filled with lush hedges, pink roses and Ranunculus offering the ultimate relaxation transporting me to a little Europe within LA. It doesn’t get more romantic than that.
GLB: What are your favorite neighborhood spots?
Elyssia: Favourite neighbourhood spot would be the utterly charming, Republique cafe and bakery. This was built originally for Charlie Chaplin in 1929 it is one of my favourite LA spots and the best double espresso to start the morning and just architecturally stunning.
