Name: Jessie Tate @cien.interiors
Time Lived In: We have lived here for a year during our personal home search.
Neighborhood: Windsor Square
Occupation: I am the founder and principal designer of CIËN Interiors, a boutique interior Design Firm based out of Los Angeles Ca.
GLB: Tell us about CIEN!
Jessie: We are a boutique interior Design firm based out of Los Angeles Ca. I would describe our aesthetic as a compilation of Modern-Traditional meets Rustic European Decor with a touch of ease incorporating that all too classic California aesthetic. We range in scope, from full-scale remodels, to FFE selection and styling. At CIËN we take pride in nurturing each project with care and consideration and thrive working in creative unison with our clients throughout the process.
GLB: What are 3 words you would use to describe CIEN interiors?
Jessie: Evocative, Timeless, Sanctuary
GLB: What makes this space “home?”
Jessie: The highlight of history. We fell in love with this space immediately. I’m incredibly selective and after some creative living during the pandemic having a space that was nurturing was vital. It was the only space we came to see and signed within 12 hrs of viewing the property. The fact that it is historically protected is what sold my husband and I on the property, especially within the frame work of L.A. architecture. The nod to French Normandy features, and original 1938 details truly made this space feel like home even before we put our touch on it.
GLB: What are three favorite architectural elements in your home?
Jessie: The trim work and crown molding is beautiful, especially the Reeded mounding around the door frames. It isn’t incredibly common and makes what would have seemed to be just another pass through a beautiful moment. Second would be of course the fabulous iron handrail (adore that they do not match and are actually uneven in their placement) on our stair case and funnily enough the 10 ft ceilings subtle yet effective in opening up smaller spaces.
GLB: What room do you spend the most time in? Why?
Jessie: We love the layout of this space however I believe our sitting room is the most delightful space within our home, and especially for entertaining. I'm aesthetically allergic to TV’s in main living spaces/bedrooms, Jeff and I both are. I believe it blocks the flow of conversation, your layout ends up being focused around access points rather than features and flow. This living room layout told us immediately how it wished to be used. There are three design focal points: 12ft floor to ceiling windows, the original stone fire place and the beautiful magnesite stair case. How we have set our space now is so anywhere you sit you are able to admire all three. Truly everyone who comes over, we lounge here and have the most wonderful conversations within this space, I love that.
GLB: What are your favorite neighborhood spots?
Jessie: Unequivocally our proximity to Larchmont, every sunday we stroll up to the farmers market with our dog GB. Along the way, my husband and I admire our favorite home facades, landscape layouts a favored pastime of mine. We grab our necessaries for the week and get a little 2 top at Great white. We are creatures of habit for sure. When we move I will thoroughly miss that, I think it's my favorite inner city village. Oh and how could I forget, Larchmont wine and cheese!
