Neighborhood: Hollywood
GLB: Please tell us about Jorge María.
Jorge: Jorge María is my design studio focused on hand-crafted, sustainable furniture. I make my furniture with North American lumber including reclaimed Douglas Fir that comes from buildings all around Southern California. I also offer certain custom options around my deigns such as size, wood type, finish, different configurations etc.
GLB: How long have you been making furniture?
Jorge: I started building furniture for other people in 2010.
GLB: Where do you find inspiration?
Jorge: I find inspiration in wood, I’m obsessed with the material. Nature, music (free jazz mostly), my travels, architecture, people, wabi-sabi: transience and imperfection.
GLB: How would you describe your furniture in 3 words?
Jorge: Timeless, Sustainable, Hand-crafted
GLB: What is your favorite piece?
Jorge: My current favorite piece is a new chair I’ve been working on which I haven’t named yet. I made them for myself first, as it usually goes, as part of my dining set. I just brought two to my showroom and I feel very excited to bring more in.
GLB: Anything new you are working on that you’d like to talk about?
Jorge: Again, my new chairs and dinning set! Out of anything I’ve ever made they take the longest time to make but so worth it.
GLB: What are your favorite local spots?
Jorge: Local to my showroom, Sanamluang Cafe my favorite Thai spot and Obet and Del’s Coffee. Local to LA is the Zebulon, Pine and Crane, Stories, and the Strawberry Peak trail.
GLB: Anything else you would like to share?
Jorge: The grand opening for my showroom and film lab, Post Mix Film Lab, is on March 26th at 5pm-late and all are invited!
