How long have you lived in your home?
5 years this Summer
What do you do? Or what industry are you in?
Marketing and Brand Strategy, Founder + Managing Director, MCE Agency
What makes this space “home?”
Being able to host friends and family for dinner parties, birthdays, their vacations, baby showers and Super Bowl parties. Also all of the amazing furniture and art pieces that my talented friends have made, and hand-me-downs from my Italian grandmother.
What are 3 things in your home that you can’t live without?
Morning light that floods my kitchen at sunrise, my dog Penny, my mom’s Mr.Coffee machine from the 90s.
Tell us about your garden!
I wanted to use local California natives for my garden and complement the huge jacaranda tree that was already in my yard, as well as preserve the old bougainvillea, orange and lime trees. Sometime soon, I plan to add in some decking and a Japanese soaking tub! I love watching the ecosystem of different insects, birds and animals that visit my yard every season. Watching Monarch Butterflies hatch in my milkweed last Spring was a highlight.
What room do you spend the most time in? Why?
Even though I have a detached garage that I made into my office, I find myself working at my dining room table most of the time, so I would say my dining room and kitchen area.
Favorite neighborhood spots?
Dunsmoor, get their steak frites, Milkfarm best cheese shop and to grab a quick bottle of wine and George’s Shoes (one of the oldest storefronts on Colorado Blvd. You will have the best conversation with him while he fixes your shoes and chainsmokes!)
Favorite historical part of the home? Why?
I fell in love with the fireplace in my living room. It is tiled in original Batchelder, a historical tile found as early as the 1910s in many homes of the Eastside and Hancock Park area in LA. The original clay color of the tiles is earthy and warm, and the decorative center tile is etched with a house that almost looks like mine. My childhood home also had a Batchelder fireplace and it was so serendipitous when I walked into this house and saw it, I knew it felt like the right house.
What do you love about living in a historic home?
Having a home built in the 1920s is beautiful but comes with a lot of responsibility. You have a duty to preserve its original elements. I love that you get what you put into it, fixing things up every year to keep its original charm – you can almost feel the house's gratitude.
What do you love about living in Los Angeles?
I love all the different cultures represented by LA’s amazing people – their food, their wonderful neighborhoods, their music and their warmth. I love experiencing these cultural pockets brought to life by their diversity in art and fashion. Los Angeles is a beautiful melting pot.
Where do you find inspiration?
Los Angeles’s vital pulse, and many landscapes, serve as both a reference point and an inspiration. And I’m always grateful for my time in nature – the sustenance of the ocean, desert and mountains, which are as much a part of my inspiration as the city itself.
